Keeping Christmas November Inspiration Blog Hop

Hello! I'm joining some delightfully talented ladies on the 25th of every month with a fun Christmas creation. It's our last blog hop before Christmas, so I thought I'd make this one a good one.

Sandy Allnock's Winter Wonderland class was the inspiration for the background of my card this time around. I can't recommend her classes enough. It looks like a complicated drawing, but it literally took me about 20 minutes to create. If you've never taken one of her classes, let me just tell you that even beginners can create masterful looking creations immediately!

Since the background is so light, I drew in the background first (it was actually much larger, I cut it down) and then stamped my images on top and colored them in. Unfortunately, the images I used are from a My Favorite Things set that has since been discontinued. It's still one of my favorites and I find myself reaching for it at this time of year even though I have other, newer sets that I could use. It's just that cute! I trimmed down my piece so that it would fit the front of an A2 card base and then stamped my greeting in Versamark on black cardstock. I heat embossed my sentiment in white powder and then wrapped it around the panel and adhered it down. I used my double sided tape to adhere the panel to a card base and I was all done!

Keeping Christmas Inspiration Blog Hop

Hello! I'm joining some delightfully talented ladies on the 25th of every month with a fun Christmas creation. I don't know about you, but I always find myself rushing to get things done in the couple of months leading up to Christmas. I'm trying to keep that from happening this year by putting together a couple of creations each month to put in my stash so I won't be crazy busy when Christmas rolls around.

It's the 25th, so it's time for a Christmas creation!

I decided to keep it simple this month because Christmas is closing in on us and I wanted something that would be easily mass produced. This card features the Layered Wreath set from Clearly Besotted and it has nothing but simple stamping. I could honestly reproduce a bunch of these in just an hour. I love the simplicity and my overly stressed brain loves it, too!

I love a good pun and Christmas cards don't escape them when I'm in charge of making them!

I started this card by stamping my Harry image in the center of the panel and then masking him off so I could stamp his buddies beside him. I removed my mask and then got started on the background.

I sketched my scene in with a very light marker and then continued to add color to my original sketch to build up shadows and create a scene. After I was satisfied with how my background looked, I colored in my little wizards. I added a very light shadow beneath them to help ground them in the scene and then set to work on my sentiment.

I used Mama Elephant's Calli Upper letters and Calli Letters to create the "Harry" part of my sentiment and then used the Christmas piece from Merry & Jolly. I utilized my MISTI to stamp the sentiment because I didn't want to ruin my card with a crooked sentiment after putting in all that work!

I took my inspiration from a lesson from Sandy Allnock's Autumn Scenes Class. I thought the "spooky forest" could be used as a transition look from Autumn to Winter. Add in my little yeti with his Christmas lights and it completely changes the look from "spooky" to festive!

I started this card by stamping my little yeti and then began sketching in my scene using my lightest BV. I'm not going to go into details on how I created the forest since that's a class from Sandy, but if you like the look be sure to check out  her class. It's a lot easier to create than it looks and I had a lot of fun with the other lessons, too!

After my background was complete, I went in and dotted in some color for my yeti's fur. I wanted to keep some texture to keep him looking furry, so I didn't try to blend very much, just used those dots to create a shadow and then kept adding dots in increasingly lighter colors. I colored in his face with some E tones and then added just one coat of each color for the lights. I added a small shadow below my yeti using colors from my background.

To finish it off, I used my MISTI to stamp my sentiment (Are you YETI for Christmas?) in Versamark ink and then heat embossed it in white powder. It's actually easier to see the sentiment in person. Trying to get a good picture was actually a little difficult! I adhered my colored panel to a white card base and I was done!
