Welcome back to brand new sketch from The Challenge!
This is a little outside of my comfort zone, I have to admit. I'm a clean and simple card maker, so layers are typically not in my repertoire. But that's what challenges are all about, aren't they? So, without further ado, here's my take on the sketch!
I started by cutting down my panel for my image. I stamped my hippo and then masked her off so I could stamp the clouds behind her. I then stamped my sentiment just below and to the right of the scene. I used my Copics to color it all in and to create a wooden floor for her to stand on. I set that aside and then dove into the part that's outside of my comfort zone!
I don't have a lot of patterned paper in my stash because I tend to skip it in most of my designs, so I decided to create my own. The bottom layer was stamped in Versamark ink with a woodgrain background stamp and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. It adds some wonderful texture and shine. The next layer (the skinny border - 4) was stamped with a Falling Heart stamp in Frosty Pink ink. The next layer (2) was a piece of pink cardstock that I stamped with Versamark ink and my Roses All Over stamp and heat embossed in white. I kept my color scheme within what I used for my hippo image. When it came to flag, I decided to use two because I wanted to tie in the blue from my clouds as well as keep the pink theme going. I adhered both of the flags overlapping so it wouldn't deviate too far from the sketch.
The next part was to simply adhere all the various layers to a card base and finish it all off. I used double-sided tape for each layer since the embossing can make it difficult for most adhesives to stick.
All in all, I like how it turned out. Definitely not something I would normally have made without the sketch inspiration, but I feel like stretching out of our comfort zones makes us better artists and crafters!
Thanks for joining me today! Can't wait to see how you're inspired this week!
