The Challenge #71

Welcome to a brand new month and brand new set of challenges and inspiration from The Challenge! It's the very first week in the month so we have a sketch challenge for you to try.

At first glance, I knew I'd have a little problem with this sketch. Layers. I don't do layers. At least not very often. That's the good thing about challenges though, it gets you out of your comfort zone!

This is the card I came up with. It's definitely not something I would have put together on my own, but I kind of like it anyway. I got through putting everything together when I suddenly realized that I hadn't left a spot for a sentiment! Vellum is a wonderful thing. It let me add a sentiment to my card without completely obscuring everything behind it What a life saver!

The card itself is pretty straight forward, just a lot of cutting and layering. I used dies for the trees and my stitched circle and grass, but simply cut the rectangular pieces with my paper trimmer. I added a faint background to the card base by using Versamark ink on top of the paper. It creates a fun watermark even when you don't emboss it with anything. I simply heat set the ink before I started to assemble my card (otherwise it might smear!).
